🛡️ Louisiana Registration Requirements for Structured Settlement Purchase Companies
If your business intends to acquire structured settlement payment rights in Louisiana, you must be registered with the Louisiana Secretary of State before filing any transfer petitions. This is required under Louisiana Revised Statutes § 9:2713.2 and administered by the Commercial Division of the Secretary of State’s office.
Who Must Register?
Any company acting as a structured settlement purchase company in Louisiana must register before initiating or participating in transfer proceedings involving payees domiciled in the state.
Registration Types & Fees
There are three types of filings:
- Initial Registration: $600
- Renewal Registration (annual): $250
- Amended Registration: No additional fee
All payments must be made by check or money order to the Secretary of State (cash not accepted).
Bond Requirement
Each applicant must provide a:
- $50,000 surety bond, letter of credit, or cash bond
- The bond must remain in effect for the life of the registration
- Intended to protect structured settlement payees who do business with the company
Application Requirements
To register, submit the completed form including:
- Applicant’s full legal name and physical (not P.O.) address
- Contact person’s name and address (if registering as a business entity)
- Notarized signature of the applicant or authorized representative
- Copy of the $50,000 bond
- Applicable registration fee

Annual Renewal
Registrations must be renewed each year before expiration. Renewal includes:
- A completed renewal form
- Updated $50,000 surety/cash bond or letter of credit
